Karen Benton MSW, LSW, is the social worker at The Thrive Group. Karen has a wide range of experience working with children and teens, families and individuals. She has worked in private schools as well as in patient and out patient mental health facilities. Karen has worked with children and teens with behavior, emotional, social and academic challenges.
Karen believes that all people are good. Her goal is to work with the child, the family and the school in order to make changes in these systems. By initially working to implement small changes and set small goals, she is able to connect with the child and bring about larger changes. Karen’s personal experience, academic training and work experience combined with her ability to forge strong relationships enables her to reach out to children facing challenges at home or at school.
Karen is able to meet with clients and/or families at the Thrive office. In addition she is able to spend one to six weeks working with a child at school in order to help the child and train the staff to work successfully with the child. Karen is also able to make home visits to observe the child and work with the child and family in setting rules and goals to make home life calmer and happier for all.
Karen graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She also received her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania and is a licensed school social worker.
Karen will be running a 9 week Social Skills Group for girls ages 7-8, starting late March. Learn more about the Social Skills Group here.
