This poem was written by Yenti Friedman, an Israel client.
My son had a 3-week long tantrum
And now things are going back to norm
So I’ve taken the time to stop and think
Of what has brought calm after the storm
I’ve realized that in essence
What I felt like all the way through
Was pretty much the same for him
And so the tools that helped me, could probably help him too
I wish I was more prepared
And knew about the storm that was coming my way
Perhaps I would have made some plans
Of how I would make it through the day
So now I know that change is huge
And my son was simply unprepared
With advance preparation next time
Some stress could likely be spared
And whilst things were going haywire
I wished someone could whisper in my ear
And explain to me what was going on
So I could make sense of what was happening here
So now I know that change is huge
And instead of my “OMG! Stop that NOW!” reaction
I could stay calm and give him lots of narration
So he can understand his sequence of cause and action
When the day was getting tough
I felt like all I could do was scream and shout
Instead I exercised and hung out with friends
And found healthy ways to let my stress come out
So now I know that change is huge
And my poor son’s body was trapped so tight
Perhaps with some swinging, spinning and deep touch input
We could quicker set things right
So whilst the tantrum is almost behind us
And I wish it remains a thing of the past
I know that if and when the next storm hits
I have the tools and techniques to calm it fast!
Hi Miriam! Nice to see it online and delighted to say that the storm has not yet hit again. CZ has been working with Avrumi as you advised at our last skype meeting and he is literally thriving. He is calm, so much more aware of his surroundings both physically and socially and we are continuing to see positive change almost daily. Just yesterday, he climbed up two flights to my sister’s apartment, had his hand on the door handle ready to walk in and then stepped back and said “oh, let’s knock”! Do let me know if you’re visiting Israel anytime soon:)
I want to clap, but don’t see a clapping icon 🙂
I’m thrilled to hear!
I plan on being there Shavuos or latest the week of August 19.
