When a child is absorbed in an activity, or is in a state of either high energy or low energy, it may be difficult to get the child to follow directions. Wash hands for dinner? Get dressed for school? Go upstairs, wash your face, brush your teeth, get in pajamas, and get into bed?

If getting your child to pay attention and move on to the next activity is a challenge, here are some tips for understanding the forces at work and working with your child’s natural rhythm.
