Welcome to the new Thrive! Blog.
In this blog, I plan to discuss topics that many parents are concerned about, including behavioral challenges (like tantrums and hyper-sensitivity for starters), sensory processing disorders, learning disorders, and other issues that I treat in my pediatric occupational therapy practice, Thrive.
I’ll also reveal how children with behavioral challenges are really experiencing the world—it’s usually not the way you and I are. When you know why your child is behaving in ways you find baffling, frustrating, or overwhelming, you’ll have insight into how to help him. I’ll be posting some helpful techniques you can try with your child at home, simple methods to help him calm down, relax, focus, connect with others, and feel better about himself. You’ll feel better, too.
And since it’s so important for a mom to feel good about herself, I’ll share with you my pointers for how to maintain your cool, respect yourself, and get your needs met—while connecting with your child’s needs. I’ve used these tips to become a more centered mom and I want to share them with you. As an OT and a mom of three boys being centered, remaining true to myself while connecting with and helping others, is such an important part of my life.
In my blog I also plan to link to products or web sites or blogs that I’ve found to be helpful, inspiring, or just plain fun (my unvarnished opinion—no strings attached.) And most important, I’ll answer your questions—there’s a comment section on every page as well as a contact form, below.
Whether you’re a mom, a dad, a teacher, or a healthcare professional, you can Get the Thrive! Blog delivered to your inbox. I’ll post free tips and techniques that you can do at home or in your classroom, insights into your child’s behavior, centering and relaxing exercises, and more.
